iDive was formed in 2014 with the merger of Ipswich Sub Aqua Club and Sunstar Sub Aqua Club.
Sunstar Sub Aqua Club History
The club was formed in 1976 as the Post Office Research Sub Aqua Club (PORSAC). The club was later renamed as the BT Research Sub Aqua club (BTRSAC) following the split of the Post Office into two separate businesses. The club was originally affiliated to the Sub Aqua Association (SAA) but decided to switch to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) in 1994. By 2000 the club offered completely open membership. To recognise this fact it was renamed Sunstar Sub Aqua. In 2006 we were one of the first Sub Aqua clubs to achieve a Clubmark accreditation. In 2009 the club received recognition for 15 years of BSAC membership.
Ipswich Sub Aqua Club History
Started in 1956 by Ray Marshall and four friends and has been training and sending diving groups all over the UK and the world since then. During the last 60 years club numbers rose from the original 5 members to over 100 in the early 2000s. Over the years the club has successfully trained many hundreds of good divers to the BSAC standards.
The club acknowledges the founders and past members of Sunstar and ISAC who pioneered the sport and trust they welcome the steps taken to strengthen local club diving.
In 2016 iDive celebrated the 60th and 40th anniversaries of it's founding clubs.
